The 2008 St Martin's Christmas Appeal - our 82nd since 1927 - was launched on BBC Radio 4 on Sunday, 7th December. (If you missed it, you can Listen Again at www.bbc.co.uk/radio4.)
Many thanks to our partners at BBC Radio 4 for their ongoing support, and to the small army of volunteers who have been answering phones and opening post. So far the appeal has received over £700,000. The current economic climate makes it difficult for charities, but as the Vicar, Rev'd Nicholas Holtam, said in on the Radio 4 Appeal: "when we're all feeling the pinch, I also want to say that being generous to people in need is part of what it is to be human... That's the spirit of Christmas..."
The money raised by the Christmas Appeal is divided between The Connection at St Martin's - working with homeless and vulnerable people in central London - and the Vicar's Relief Fund - making small grants to individuals and families in need all over the UK, many threatened by homelessness or with experience of being homeless.
The work of the Christmas Appeal goes on throughout the year. If you would like to support us, click on the link or send a cheque to the address below.
