Figures displayed throughout St Martin’s
Robert Koenig’s Odyssey
Odyssey is Robert Koenig’s attempt to call up his Polish ‘ancestral ghosts’ by carving a large group of male and female figures, each 2.5m tall, out of lime trees which grew in his mother’s home village of Dominikowice in South East Poland. These trees bore witness to the many dramatic events that shaped the lives of people over the last 100 years.
In addition to this exhibition in the Gallery, these remarkable figures will be on display across the site of St Martin’s from 19 March – 20 July. During the Gallery exhibition, the artist will be creating a new sculpture inspired by his time at St Martin’s. www.robertkoenig-sculptor.com

Journeys

Life is seldom a single journey from A to B but a series of threads woven together, taking us in different directions, and changing and expanding until our own life’s cloth is complete. All of us, throughout our lives, are constantly leaving that which is secure and familiar and facing new arrivals and experiences. Each of our journeys is unique yet intertwined with others. Throughout our own journeys we discover the identities, stories and cultures of others and become part of the incredible patchwork that is the human race. The St Martin’s Journeys exhibition currently in the Foyer leads us to reflect upon some of the threads that create a living community.

11 June – 15 July
